What is Non-Commercial Research?

Non-commercial clinical trial research is usually undertaken by not-for-profit sponsors such as universities, public health organisations, or charities.

The research’s goal is to answer a scientific question, improve patient care and outcomes, or advance public health.

The King’s Health Partners Clinical Trials Office (KHP-CTO) does not have a direct relationship with patients, but supports non-commercial CTIMPs (Clinical Trial of Investigational Medical Product) and ATMPs (Advanced Therapy Medicinal Product) sponsored by Guy’s and St Thomas’, King’s College Hospital and South London and Maudsley NHS Trusts.

About our Non-Commercial Team

The King’s Health Partners Clinical Trials Office (KHP-CTO) Non-Commercial Team was set-up in 2008 to manage Sponsor responsibilities for Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products (CTIMPs).

We support trials sponsored or co-sponsored by KHP organisations to ensure they are set up and conducted in compliance with the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

The KHP-CTO Non Commercial Team supports the setup, conduct and oversight of Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products (CTIMPs) and non-CTIMPs sponsored or co-sponsored by our partner institutions. These are:

The diagram shows a left-to-right flow of relationships and processes. King's Health Partners, shown at the top centre, sponsors CTIMPs supported by the KHP-CTO. King's Health Partners is a partnership between King's College London, King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. On the right, Non-Commercial funders connect via a green dashed line into four partner organisations: King's College London, King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. These four organisations flow into the King's Health Partners Clinical Trials Office at the centre. From the KHP-CTO, a pink line flows left into three functions: Regulatory oversight, Monitoring, and Quality assurance. From these functions, the flow continues left to Trial sites, shown as a network of connected nodes. Additional callout text states: The King's Health Partners Clinical Trials Office (KHP-CTO) supports CTIMPs sponsored by King's Health Partners. The KHP-CTO ensures CTIMPs are delivered to the highest standards to meet the expectations of Non-Commercial funders.
