King’s Health Partners Clinical Trials Office Supports Takeda Clinical Trial to Recruit First Participant Globally

King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, a member of King’s Health Partners, has recruited the first participant globally into Takeda’s TAK-226-3001 clinical trial, marking an important early milestone in the study and reflecting the strength of the research infrastructure supporting commercial clinical trials across King’s Health Partners.

The study was supported by the King’s Health Partners Clinical Trials Office (KHP-CTO), which led set-up at the Trust from initial sponsor engagement through to activation and recruitment.

For the KHP-CTO Commercial Trials team, this involved coordinating a wide range of activities required to start participant recruitment, including feasibility, departmental engagement, the application of National Contract Value Review (NCVR), contract negotiation, governance approvals, pharmacy and support department assessments, resource planning, and confirmation of capacity and capability.

Study set-up was led by Lucas Baridotti, Commercial Trials Associate, on behalf of the KHP-CTO, with support from Sarah Sulaiman, Deputy Commercial Trials Manager.

A Milestone for the Study — and the Wider Research Partnership

Being the first organisation globally to recruit provides an early indication that the study has been successfully established and that its recruitment strategy is working.

For King’s Health Partners, the milestone also demonstrates the ability of its research environment to support the delivery of complex commercial clinical research, bringing together clinical teams, specialist support services, and dedicated clinical trials expertise.

Lucas added:

“Achievements such as this reinforce the KHP-CTO’s reputation as a trusted partner for commercial clinical research.”

Supporting Delivery Beyond First Participant Recruited

The KHP-CTO’s involvement does not end with the first participant recruited. The team will continue to support the study through its delivery, including review and approval of study modifications, management of contract variations, governance support, and end-of-trial and archiving activities.

The team will also continue to work closely with the research team at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to address operational issues as the study progresses.

Successful recruitment of the first participant is both an important milestone for TAK-226-3001 and an example of how effective collaboration, specialist expertise, and well-coordinated study set-up can help translate commercial research opportunities into active clinical studies at King’s Health Partners.
